Most probably there are no authentic games of the
country itself, nor from Parker Brothers, nor of inland make, because although
the sets hereunder described had been bought in Casablanca there is no
relationship with the country whatsoever.
Edition: Standard,
ref. 14535101
Publisher: Parker/Tonka/Hasbro - 1996
Dimensions of the box: 26.8 x 40.3 x 5.3 cm
of the double folded board: 25.2 x 25.2 cm
The game:
This is a true FRENCH game with the streets of Paris and the rules in French
only but still it is played in MOROCCO, where French is still the second
language, as well.
This new box contains a red plastic tray
insert with newly shaped slots for the banknotes and title cards of the banker.
The board is folded in four like in the so-called "small box".
The back side is red and the play side is blue
green. The set is manufactured in Ireland and so it has again a
picture of a "laughing family" at the back of the box. On the board
are the nice Chance- and Caisse de Communauté cards of this game.
The banknotes are of the new model, i.e. with a (black) MONOPOLY ribbon
and Uncle Pennybags in the upper part of the circle and at the bottom, almost
unvisible, the remark "1996 Tonka Corporation".
The 10 tokens (car, boat, hat, dog, iron, canon, horseman, wheelbarrow,
shoe and thimble) are of pewter and likely no longer manufactured in China! The green,
plastic houses do have a chimney, the red
hotels don't!
The price of this set amounted to DH 240.- (=US$ 25.-) in February 1998.
Version: Standard,
without ref. nr.
Publisher: Grati Chedly - manufacturer in Tunisia - 1996 ?
Dimensions of the box: 50 x 26 cm
The game:
This is a full TUNISIAN game that is apparently also played in MOROCCO! The
streets are general occuring streets in Tunisia and the stations are those of
important cities along the railway line to Libya.
On both the lid and the gameboard the color of the play field
is dark bluegreen. The lid shows side the
fourth side of the board with Départ with the red
bar with Monopoly (in Arabic) under. The most expensive blue
street, Ave. Bourguiba, shows a car while this edition is supplied with 4
plastic knights of chess and 2 small pawns!
The board has the well-known appearance of the Parker Brothers issues, so
with the black engine at the station spaces pointing to the left, apart from the
language which is of course only Arabic. The Arabic word Monopoly is on the
midfield of the board in open characters. However, under the Arabic characters
for MONOPOLY is no reference whatsoever to any patent! The gameboard is
solid and shows a " wallpaper pattern" at the back. The back of the
solid board has a green-pink
square-pattern with MONOPOLY in one corner and the same picture in Arabic in the
opposite corner.
The innerbox does not have an insert - the component parts are loose
in the box!
The property cards are plasticized like the blue
Chance- and darkred Community
Chest cards. The banknotes are also in accordance with Parker
Brothers, so with 4 small spaces with resp. a house, an engine and twice the
amount. In the mid space is MONOPOLY (in Arabic) with the amount under.
The 2 dice are of red wood into which
the pips have been drilled.
The red (!) houses and green
(!) hotels are of poor plastic. They have no chimneys.
The price of this set amounted to DH 179.50 (= US$ 20.-) in October 1998.
