With special thanks to Pwee Keng Ho from
Singapore, who is my counsellor for issues in this region.

Since
1819 Singapore has always been under the sphere of influence of England it is
obvious Waddingtons to have introduced the London version of
Monopoly from the very beginning in 1936.
With the first issue in 1987 Singapore published its own city-state edition
according to the Waddingtons design (although with
diesel engines on
the station spaces), soon followed by the Parker/Hasbro design (with the blue
treasure chest).
In addition various manufacturers in neighboring countries, like Malaysia and
China, made and still make Monopoly-like editions, called Millionaire,
Jutaria,
Billionaire, Great Rich Man, etc. The large variety of editions described in this chapter shows that Singapore
trade loves to import at least many of them.
The streets of the Singapore edition are from Go
onwards:
Geylang Road - Serangoon Road
- Ang Mo Kio Station (Mass
rapid transit) - Farrer
Road - Braddell
Road - Thomson Road - In
Changi Prison/Just visiting - Battery
Road - Electric Company
- Empress Place - Connaught
Drive - City Hall Station (Mass rapid
transit) - Colombo Court - Havelock
Road - St. Andrews Road - Free
Parking - Robinson Road -
Shenton Way - Collyer Quay
- Jurong East Station (Mass
rapid transit) - Marina
Square - Emerald
Hill - Water Works
-Raffles
City - Go to Changi Prison
- Tanglin Road - Orchard
Road -
Scotts Road - Bedok Station (Mass rapid transit)
- Nassim Road and Queen
Astrid Park.
Edition: Standard
- London edition, without ref.
Publisher: Waddingtons Int.Ltd. - Singapore - ±1985
Dimensions of the box: 25.6 x 50.3 cm
The game:
This is obviously a Waddingtons game, so with a red
lid with Monopoly in red characters
in the white bar. Above this is the trade mark square in the mid, with 2
engines, Uncle Pennybags and the £-sign.
On the cover 4 languages
are mentioned, viz.: English, Malaysian, Chinese and Tamil, but
the game itself is in English only.
The solid game board has a pink
back and contains the streets of London. In the centrefield is the word Monopoly in
open characters, parallel to the first side. There is no copyright
year mentioned. The finish of this issue corresponds very much to that of the
"Singapore Edition The Lion King" that was made in the same works.
Like in the in England made editions the error in the rent of the unbuilt
most expensive yellow
street, Piccadilly,
is still present. This rent is the same as that of the other 2 streets,
viz. $ 22 instead of $ 24. (This error erose already in the original,
American version in 1935 and has been copied in all countries, until the early
1980s.)
The soft plastic insert of the innerbox is white and contains 8 trays, one of which
is for the small rules.
The 6 tokens are: boat - dog - hat - shoe - iron and car. They are made of
dull grey metal.
The houses and hotels are of simple plastic and
have overhanging roofs with excentric chimneys. The money exists of
Monopoly banknotes with the poor text "Registered Trade Mark". The property
deeds have a red back, like the Community
Chest cards. The Chance cards have a blue
back. The bottom side of the box is unprinted.
Both the game board and the rim of the box says "Made and printed in
Singapore".
This set was bought in May 1987.
Edition: Touristo®
"The board game of Singapore"
Publisher: Touristo Enterprises Pte. Ltd. - ±1985
Dimensions of the box: 14.2 x 28.0 x 3.0 cm
of the little board: 26.2
x 26.2 cm
The game:
Actually this is not a Monopoly-like game, because there is no question of
properties to be bought and subsequently built on in order to finally become the
monopolist. Despite the very few points making one thinking of Monopoly with
this game, I will show it here anyhow, to learn a bit more of this interesting
world port.
The game goes as follows:
The play consists of getting to know some of the interesting places in
Singapore, collecting as many Token points
as possible and escaping the multi-various pitfalls that are simulated in the Pot
Luck cards.
If a player lands on a space ear-marked Pot luck
he/she has to pick a card from the top of the Pot Luck
deck and follows the instructions. Each time a player passes "Welcome To
Singapore" he/she has to take a Token
card, except he/she is proceeding to destinations such as Changi Prison,
National University Hospital and Police Station.
Winner is he/she with the highest total Token
points at the end of the game, when all Token
cards have been taken from the board.
The small gameboard, showing the Singapore islands, has 11 spaces on each side and the players have to move in
the anti-clockwise direction.
From "Welcome to Singapore" onwards the 43 spaces
are:
Raffles Hotel - Trishaw Hotel - Fort Canning - The Westin Stamford & Westin
Plaza/Pot Luck - Sultan Mosque - Singapore Zoological
Gardens - Harbour Cruise - East Coast Park/Pot Luck -
Marina Square - National Museum - Police
Station/Changi Prison -
Kusu Island - Butterfly Park/Pot Luck
- Orchard Road - Sentosa Monorail - Botanic Gardens/Pot
Luck - Satay Club - Haw Par Villa - St.Andrew's Cathedral
- Discotheque - MRT/S'pore
Bus Service - Little India - Sri Mariamman Temple - Mandai Orchid
Garden - Cable Car Ride/Pot Luck -
Jurong Bird Park - Southern Islands - Jurong Crocodile Paradise - Bukit Timah
Nature Reserve/Pot Luck - Japanese
Garden - Fort Siloso - National University Hospital/
Changi Airport - Surrender Chamber - Changi
Golf Club/Pot Luck - Van Kleef
Aquarium - Chinatown - Temple of 1.000 Lights - Peranakan Place/Pot
Luck - Newton Circus Food Centre - Chinese Garden -
Sentosa Musical Fountain and Bukit Turf Club.
Some of the instructions on the 50 Pot Luck
cards read:
 | Enjoy an evocative journey into Singapore's history at the Surrender
Chamber on Sentosa Island.
In all there are 109 like-size figures on display accompanied by actual
combat footage. |
 | Smoking is prohibited in Government offices, lifts, buses, cinemas,
theatres and restaurants.
Miss a turn and return a Token value of 5 points to the deck. |
 | "On no! Don't tell me you have misplaced our passports!"
Go back 5 spaces and return a Token value of 5 points to the deck. |
The 40 Token cards with various values of
points have no intructions but do have a motto like:
 | 10 points
'Nothing can harm a good man, either in life or after death.' Socrates |
 | 7 points
'Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.' Oscar Wilde |
Futhermore the game only has 4 plastic pawns with a lions head on top
and 2 small white dice with black pips.
Edition: Standard
- Singapore edition - "The Lion City", ref. #402S
Publisher: Waddingtons Int.Ltd. - Singapore - 1987
Dimensions of the box:: 26 x 51 cm
The game:
The white lid of this nice looking box shows a sturdy red
lion with the text "Singapore Edition" as well as a part of
the fourth side of the board.
The colors red and white have been
choosen because it are the colors of the nation's flag. The mane divides into
five segments which represents the nation's five ideals as embodied in the five
stars of the flag: democracy, peace, progress, justice and
equalty.
"It is recorded in the Malay Annals (Sejarah Melayu) that long ago a Sumatran
prince named Sang Nila Utama was attracted towards the white sandy shores of an
island. While sailing to the island his ship was struck by a violent storm and
wrecked. The prince however managed to save himself but lost all his possessions.
Shortly after being washed ashore he came across a strange and fierce-looking
creature which he took to be a lion. So when the prince discovered that this new
island was a good place to settle, he named it Singa Pura or Lion City
in honour of the majestic beast he first encountered."
The solid game board with pink
back contains the streets of Singapore. The centrefield shows the word Monopoly
in open characters parallel to the first side. The text is, as it usually is on
the English gameboards, mentioned twice on each space.
Although it is an
official Waddingtons issue there are a remarkable lot of differences, viz.:
- The stations show a white diesel engine with a horizontal red
ribbon instead of the green engine.
- The Changi jail does show 10 bars but there is no Jake
the Jailbird to see.
- The Electric Company space shows a different type of bulb.
(Note: The corresponding title deed says Electric Station.)
- On the Free Parking corner is a red
circle with P, instead of the red
car.
- Water Works shows a large white tap with a large white
drip.
- On the third corner a brown
hand-with-blue-cuff directs
you to the Changi Prison.
Even in this first own Singapore edition this error in the rent of the
unbuilt most expensive yellow
street, Raffles
City, has been carried through. Consequently this is again the
same as of the other 2 streets, viz. $ 22 iinstead of $ 24.
The innerbox contains a banker's tray of thin white plastic
and has 8 holes, one of them destined for the small Rules.
The money
consists of the banknotes with the inscription "Monopoly" and under
that in small characters "Registered Trade Mark" and under the figure
the notation "© 1935 Parker Brothers". The 7 banknotes are printed in
color on white paper and the denominations are: 1 - 5
- 10 - 20
- 50 - 100
and 500. The prices are in
Singapore dollars.
The 6 tokens (boat, car, etc.) are nice
looking and made of heavy metal.
The Chance cards have a blue
back and the Community Chest cards a red
one. The green, plastic houses
and red hotels
have an overhanging roof and an excentric situated chimney.
The 2 large
(15x15x15 mm) dice are white with black pips.
The Rules are in English only.
"Made and printed in Singapore".

Publisher: SPM - Puchong - Malaysia - 1987
Dimensions of the box: 19.2 x 36.7 x 3.4 cm
of the game board: 35.2 x 35.5 ccm
The game:
The in the neigbourgh country of Singapore develloped and produced $aidina
editions are all available here, however from only a few of them it was proved
to me.
This "traveller's" edition is most probably only a smaller version of
the standard one of code no.SPM 21, because their design looks the same.
The game is bilingual: Malayan and English.
The streets in this game are from 22 different cities.
From Mula/Start onwards the 22 cities with their streets are:
Kangar
(Jalan Kangar) - Batu
Pahat (Jalan Rahmat) - Jabatan bekalan
air (Water Supply) - Ladang getah (Rubber
plantation) - Sibu (Jalan

The little game board is of strong cardboard forced folded
perpendicular to side 2 and 4, and has a structured brown
glossy back.
The innerbox has a white plastic tray with 5 holes for the
attributes.
The bottom of the box is unprinted
This in Malaysia manufactured game was bought in Singapore July 2003.
Edition: Standard
- Singapore edition - Orange
Lotus, ref.#402S
Publisher: Waddingtons Int.Ltd. - Singapore - 1993
Dimensions of the box: 26 x 51 cm
The game:
Also this edition, issued 6 years after The Lion-version with the same (!) ref.,
is packed in a nice box with white lid showing apart from an orange
lotusflower 8 illustrations, a.o.things 2 times a women's head, China Town,
Raffles Hotel and the Satay Club. Uncle Pennybags arises from the middle O
in Monopoly. This design reminds of the Hong Kong edition with ref. 402H.
The gameboard is of course of solid cardboard again and
contains the streets of Singapore.
Also in this editions the 8 tokens are of heavy metal, but less
nice finished than those of the Lion City edition.
The money
consists of Monopoly banknotes, edition "1993 Tonka Corporation".
The price of this set amounted to M$ 34.- (€ 17.25) in July 1995.
Edition: Standard
- London edition, ref. 44027
Publisher: Waddingtons Int.Ltd./Tonka Corp. - Singapore -1993
Dimensions of the box: 25.6 x 50.3 cm
The game:
The red-white-red
lid of this Waddingtons issue does not show the trade mark sign
any more, but does the Waddingtons variant of the "attributes
collection", i.a. with a dog instead of the shoe and a banknote of
500 instead of 1000, like in the European version. Moreover the fourth side of
the gameboard is missing.
The word Monopoly is in white characters in the first red
bar and uncle Pennybags arises out the O.
Now again the set has 4 Instructions i.e. in the languages English, Malayan,
Chinese and Tamil.
The solid gameboard has a
mahogany colored back and contains the streets of London.
On the board's centre is the word Monopoly in a thin frame with Uncle Pennybags
coming out the middle O. Further the number 402D50 is mentioned.
The property deeds have a red
back, however in a white border. The Chance cards are printed
yellow with white border and the Community Chest
cards are printed pink likewise
with white border. On the back side is in recurring text a frame with Monopoly
and Uncle Pennybags.
The 6 tokens are of shimmery metal.
The money consists of Monopoly banknotes with the texts "Reg.Trade
Mark" and "All Copyrights Reserved". Striking is the back side
showing the trade mark sign and the £-sign, while the rim of
the lid also shows a small trade mark sign (underneath the ref.nr.), however
with $-sign.
The green
plastic houses and red
hotels have overhanging roofs and an excentric placed chimney, exactly
like they are shown on the lid.
The soft red plastic insert of the
innerbox state for which banknotes they are ment. Besides there
is a tray where the property cards can be vertically placed in. In addition
there are even a few slots in which houses and hotels can be stored.
The bottom side of the box shows 6 beautiful close-ups of the board and the
insert.
Both dice are red
and have white pips.
Both the board and the rim of the lid says "Manufactured in the
United Kingdom ..... Distributed by Waddingtons Int.Ltd., Singapore".
The price of this set amounted to M$ 69.90 (€21,80) in February 1996.
Edition: Travel
edition - London, ref.#4025
Publisher: Waddingtons Int.Ltd./Tonka Corp. - Singapore - 1993
Dimensions of the box: 23 x 23 cm
The game:
The red lid with white bar shows the trade mark sign again, but with
$-sign.
On the game board of thin, strong cardboard is the word Monopoly in
open characters, parallel to the first side.
The property deeds, Chance- and Community Chest
cards are the same as those of the game with ref.44027. This set has many
similarities to the Hong Kong Travel Edition, ref. #4021, because:
 | The plastic houses and hotels do have a
roof edge, while the chimneys are excentrically placed. |
 | The 6 tokens of black plastic are: a funny dog -
car - boat - hat - iron and shoe. |
 | The money consists of usual Monopoly banknotes, edition
"1993 Tonka Corporaton". |
 | The insert of the innerbox is of white plastic and
contains same 6 trays. |
 | Both dice are white with black pips. |
On the board's midfield it says "Made in Great Britain",
while on the rim of the lid it says "Made and printed by
Waddingtons International Ltd., Singapore".
The price of this set amounted to M$ 67.- (€ 21.-) in February 1996.

Publisher: Mountains Plastic Fty.Ltd. - ±1995
Dimensions of the box: 18.2 x 15.2 x 3.8 cm
of the carrying case: 9.2x16.0 cm
The game:
This is a very special and never seen before edition: a plastic mini carrying
case in 3 sections, inclusive a grip, containing the little game board and all
its accessories.
The very short Rules are on the over box.
There are but 8 properties, all
printed on one little sheet, together with the 5 banknotes.
The properties (25x38 mm) are respectively: Hong
Kong - Australia - England
- France - Gemany
- Canada - Japan
and USA, all illustrated with the countries flag.
The banknotes (12x25 mm) are: $100 - 200
- 300 - 400
and 500.
The other spaces on the board are from Go
onwards: Stop once - Pay $200 to visit the Sidney Opera House - Spin again - Get
$100 to visit Big Ben - Pay $200 to visit Effiel Tower (see
the wrong spelling) - Annual Medical Check-up, Stop Once - Spin again

In the left red lid of the case are 2
spinners, 1 to move your token and the other one being the Chance wheel
you should turn on landing on one of the 5 "Try your Chance" spaces.
There are but 10 red, hollow plastic houses
with tiles and a chimney that can be built up to 3 on each of the properties.
The 4 colored plastic tokens are backpackers (?) wearing a helmet. This
edition was "Made in China" and bought in Singapore February 2004 Edition: Millionaire - Great Rich Man - London, no

Property Trading Board Game
Publisher: Fair World - Taiwan - ±1998
Dimensions of the box: 18.5 x 36.5 x 3.5 cm
of the little board: 36.0
x 36.0 cm
The game:
This edition makes the impression to be just a small sized copy of the red-white-red
Waddinton sets, but there are more differences, such as:
 | No Monopoly mentioned, neither on the lid nor on the board. |
 | The lid covers a polystyrene foam block with 7 holes for the accessories. |
 | The game board is that of London, including the green
engines pointing backwards, but with the names in Chinese as well. |
 | Of course no reference at all to any copyright. |
 | The sallow property cards (59x92 mm) have a deep
red mortgage back. |
 | The sallow Community Chest and Chance cards can only be
distinguished from each other by the red Community
and blue Chance
print on the back sides. The bilingual instructions are the same as of the
original Waddington editions. |
 | The banknotes, in the Waddington design, are printed in color on
sallow white paper, the back side showing the Fair World logo.
The denominations are: 1
- 5 - 10 - 20
- 50 - 100 and 500. |
 | The 6 tokens are hollow, plastic chess pawns. |
 | Dark green, hollow houses and red
hotels, both with lines over the roof and an excentric placed chimney. |
 | Both small dice are white with black pips. |
 | The Rules are on a sheet of cardboard, one side in Chinese, the other side
in English. |
The set is "Made in Taiwan".
Edition:
Standard Singapore Edition, Ref.Nr. 00009/284
Publisher: Parker Brothers/Hasbro Singapore
- 2000
Dimensions of the box: 26.8 x 40.3 x 5.3 cm
of the double folded board: 25.2 x 25.2 cm
The game:
This set is from the collection of Steve Amato - N.Y.C.
This is one of
the first standard Singapore editions issued by Parker Brothers/Hasbro
instead of by Waddington. It is packed in their new sized standard box
showing a part the fourth side with Go under
the red Monopoly bar. In the same time the
ref. nr. 00009 Parker Bros. used from the very start in 1935 for their standard
editions is introduced for the Singapore issues as well.
On top the gold ring are the dice showing a 3 and 6 and next to the bar
is a Merlion picture, because one of the tokens is the Merlion.
The game board has a blue back and is
necessarily folded twice to fit in the shorter box.
The Chance cards are orange and Community Chest cards yellow.
The banknotes, printed in black on colored paper, do no longer
show anything on patent inside the ellipse.
The plastic houses and hotels
have a chimney.
Edition: Falcification of Hasbro Monopoly ref. 14535, in Arabic, Ref.No.2004
Publisher: Hongyan (and as it wrongly says:Parker/ Tonka Corp.) - ±2000
Dimensions of the box: 4.8 x 26.6 x 40.5 cm
The game:
This really has never been shown before, a falcification without equal!
This in China made edition, (partly) in the Arab language, in the first
instant suggests to be the officially by Parker Brothers issued French
standard edition of 1996. The ref. number 14535/101 shown
on the bottom of the box stands for a "white box with part of the
4th side with the red Monopoly
bar with Uncle Pennybags" on top, while "101"
is Hasbro's country number for France. However:
 |
the
most expensive street on the Paris game board is the "Rue de la
Paix", that so needfully had to partly be translated into
English to
"Road Paix". And why is the word Chance (the same in English as in
French) translated into Luck, while on the Go field
the French word Départ
has not been translated and the rest of the text is in bad English? |
 | the text next to the "color picture of the laughing family" on
the bottom of the box is again a poor translation into English of the
originally French story. |
And you will subsequently fall into an other surprise opening the the box,
made of crude brown cardboard, because you
do not get a nice and solid board with the Paris streets but two soft boards,
1 of them being a chessboard and the other .... a board with the streets of London.
Considering the fact that:
 |
the locomotives on the stations are green
and "go backwards to Go" |
 |
there is no blue
treasure chest on the Community Chest spaces |
 |
nor is there a gold-ring-with-diamond on the Super Tax space |
 |
the centre field of the game board shows Monopoly in open characters |
this game board shows up to be a copy of the English board (according
to the Waddington design) . Although this edition was launghed
much later than 1982 the rent of the unbuilt properties of all 3 yellow
streets is still the same (£ 22.-). This is incorrect because this error was rectified
in about 1982 as the Parker Brothers design with a.o. the black engines
became applied.
The rectangular Chance cards are yellow,
the Community Chest cards pink. Both
spaces for these cards are provided with a Micky
Mouse figure. This immediately exhort the question if a connection could
exsist between this Chinese manufacturer Hongyan and the makers of corresponding Oman
editions as well those with ref. nr. 7405 from the countries Saudi-Arabia,
Yemen and India?
However, the 7 banknotes have been copied with incredible accuracy and
quality from the original 14535 edition even including the hardly legible text "©1996 Tonka Corporation".
The
7 denominations are resp.: 100 - 500
- 1.000
- 2.000 - 5.000
- 10.000
and 50.000.
The insert of the box is a copy in white plastic of the red
insert of the original edition.
The 6 tokens are simple pawns of plastic. The dark
green houses and red hotels are
of plastic and have overhanging roofs with a chimney.
Of both small dice (with sides of 6 mm) all numbers are in blue pips,
except for the red 4 and the thick red
pip for 1.
Although this set has been "Made in China" it probably was only ment
for export.
The price of this set amounted to S$ 12.90 (€ 7.10) June 2003 in Singapore.
Edition:
Jutaria - Millionaire

"Pek Origina" (Original packaging)
Publisher: Hee Trading Co - Butterworth - Malaysia - 2000
Dimensions of the box: 14.2 x 23.0 x 2.2 cm
of the unfolded "board": 35.5 x 38.0 cm
The game:
This edition is trilingual: Malayan - Chinese and English, although the
Rules are only in Malayan and Chinese.
Like all of these small inland made games the boxes and its contents are very
poor, although the print quality is good. The box opens on the small side.
Both sides of this box show a "Great Rich Man" (compare with Parker's
"Rich uncle Pennybags") in front of the Malaysian flag, on the Chinese
side bearing a white jacket and on the Malaysian side a black jacket.
Note that the white dice in the green oval
show 5 and 4.
Why may one say a Juteria to be an imitation Monopoly game?
Looking to this edition it is because:
The
spaces on the paper game board are from Mula/"Start from here"
onwards:
Mc Donald (1) - Fate
- KFC (2) - Income Tax Paid - Lapangan
terbang (airport) bayan lepas Pulau Pinang (3)
- Jabatan Bekalan Air (4) - Chance

- Sepang F1 circuit (27) - Asset and MSC
(28).
The game board's midfield shows the Petronas Twin Towers
of Kuala Lumpur, as well as those 2 other landmarks: KL Tower
and the airport's Control Tower.
The property deeds are all on one white paper sheet, printed in red,
with a big light blue block on the mortgage
side.
Each set of 15 Fate
and Chance cards is also printed on one
sheet of colored paper the back sides of which show a star pattern.
The money consist of Millionaire banknotes all printed in color on 2
sheets of white paper in 7 denominations 10 - 50 - 100 - 200 - 500 - 1000
and 5000 dollars (Design & Created By: Ooi Yan Hee
Trading as Hee Trading Co. 2000).
The set has but 4 hollow plastic chess pawns for tokens.
Both small dice (sides of 10 mm) are white with black pips except
for the large red dot and a red
4 pips.
This edition was "Buatan Malaysia" (Made in Malaysia)
It was bought in Singapore April 2003 at the price of SIN$ 2.- (€ 1.10)
Edition:
Who's the Richest? - Art.No. 3315
"To be the richest to travel around the world"
Publisher: Hong Kong manufacturer with Reg.No.9710074.3
- ±2001
Dimensions of the box: 25.8
x 40.7 x 3.3 cm
of the white case: 19 X 26 X 3 cm
The game:
The sight of this kind of "travel edition" makes immediately thinking
of the Polish edition
EuroBusiness, Nr.Art.23708 that was "made in China". The
resemblance between these 2 games is that large that they must come from the
same manufacturer. Both editions do also produce an Uncle Pennybags, to suggest
a relation with Parker Brothers. In this edition he travels around the board in
a plane.
The bottom part of the white case contains the little game board
on the small ends of which are trays for the banknotes. In the middle of the
board is a tray Lucky Pool and a red
pointer over a space with figures from 1 to 6 and 3 outer sections:
 | red = unacceptable |
 | yellow
= acceptable = you may build 1 house
and pay the amount to the bank |
 | free = you may
build 1 house for free |
This arrow acts as a die to move over the board.
The lid part of the case also has a red
spinner. This acts as a Chance space. In addition are another 4
little trays and "openings" for the 40 plastic pegs
in the colors red, yellow,
green and blue
and 10 red houses.
There are 4 tokens (or better: flyers) shaped as colored
plastic airplanes.
The 28 spaces of the little board show 10 European countries, from
Go onwards a space showing the nations' flag,
followed by one showing a landmark:
Australia - Sydney's operahouse - Belgium
- Manneke Pis - Canada - Niagara Falls - Denmark

Liberty.
Houses can be built on the properties with a flag. However, if you may
build depends on which part of the circle the arrow points out when you turn the
arrow. In proof a peg of the same color as your airplane has to be put in the
opening next to the flag on the space of the board. In addition another peg must
be placed in the lid section next to the letter of that country and next
to that a house as well. For the second and third house this house must be
removed to the next openings. This is the way your properties are determined and
there is no need to collect streets of a color group. Besides you have to
consider next points:
 | On the "landmark space" next to your own property one has to pay
or get paid (!) but this is business for the banker. |
 | Even if you are sent back to Go
you will receive 100 $! |
 | In case you land on one of the 4 "Try your Luck" spaces, you
must rotate the spinner in the lid section. There you run the risk of paying
or receiving. All these transactions run via the "Lucky Pool" tray
on the centrefield of the game board. |
 | You may own 5 properties at the maximum. |
 | When you land on a space with flag without having sufficient capital you
still may turn the arrow counting on the possibility of landing on the free
section. |
The game is over the moment one player runs out of money.

Publisher: Yan Hee Trading Sdn.Bhd. - ±2001
Dimensions of the box: 14.7 x 21.2 x 2.0 cm
of the unfolded "board": 34.5 x 37.4 cm
The game:
This Billionaire edition is a "brother" issue of the Millionaire
set with a lower bar code number and from the same manufacturer. It is almost a
copy except for the prices being multiplied by a factor 10.
Other differences in design are:
This edition was "Buatan Malaysia" (Made
in Malaysia).
It was bought in Singapore February 2004 at the price of SIN$ 2.90 (€

Edition:
Jutaria - Disertai dengan hadiah misteri (including
a mystery gift)
Tanda-tanda besar (large characters)
Publisher: Unknown manufacturer - ±2002
Dimensions of the box: 14.5 x 23.0 x 2.3 cm
of the unfolded "board": 35 x 35 cm
The game:
This slightly larger game box looks very similar to the earlier described one
with bar code ref., reason to assume it comes from the same manufacturer.
(The "mystery gift" in this set is a tiny plastic sheet (4x5 cm) to
compose a space shuttle of.)
Both the lid and the bottom show again the "Great Rich Man waving with
banknotes" and bearing a purple jacket
this time. The Petronas Twin Towers of Kuala Lumpur are now shown on the
box as well as on the game board. Besides, the (Menara) KL Tower
is also shown on the box. The box opens on the left longer side and the lid is
one whole with the bottom part.
This edition is trilingual: Malayan - Chinese and English and the Rules
are now in English as well. However, some strange words are used, like:
 | wheel shaft = die |
 | scoring card = banknote |
 | substitude = token |
The

The property deeds are all on one white paper sheet, printed in red,
with a big blue green block on the mortgage
side.
Each set of 15 Fate
and Chance cards is printed in black
on one sheet of colored paper.
The money consist of banknotes all printed in color on 2 sheets of white
paper in 7 denominations 10 - 50 - 100 - 200 - 500 - 1000 and 5000 RM (Ringgit
Malayan, in the Rules also referred to as $).
The set has 4 hollow plastic pawns for tokens.
According
to the Rules there are but 30 hollow plastic, light
green houses and 10 pink hotels,
all with lines over the roof and excentric situated chimney. They are not fixed
together.
Although the Rules mention only one "wheel shaft" two dice
(sides of 9 mm) do come with the game. Those very badly made Chinese dice are
white with black pips except for the large red
dot.
This set was bought in Singapore February 2004 at the price of SIN$
2.60 (€ 1.45)
The same edition has also been published with a rosette on the lid, saying
"Edisi baru/New edition" rather than the promise of a mystery
gift!
Edition: Millionaire - New Generation
Publisher: Unknown - ±2002
Dimensions of the box: 20.2 x 14.0 x 2.0 cm
of the unfolded paper "board": 36.2 x 39.0 cm
The game:
Since in a yellow
corner of the lid is said "New Generation" I date this edition a bit
later than the earlier mentioned, Malaysia made "Jutaria with a mystery
gift". There are more similarities between this edition and the other one,
such as:
 | The same "Great Rich Man" is clearly present on both sides of the
little box. |
 | The 17 points English Rules on the small sallow paper (13.5x19 cm) use the
same strange words for a die, banknote and token,
meaning
that this game must have been made by the same unknown Malayan manufacturer. |
The spaces on the paper game board with a blue
center square, are from "From this way" onwards all properties of
Hong Kong: Tai Po Road
- Fate - Lai
Chi Kok Road - (star) - Shim
Sa Tusi Station - Silver Mind Bay - Chance
- Castle Peak Road - Village
Club - Jail - Kai
Tak Amusement Park - Electric Company
- Lai Yuen Amusement Park - Boumdary

Statue Square - Fate - Waterloo

Voeux Road - Pai Po Station - Garden
Park - Victoria Park - Water
Authority - Queen's Road - Go To
Jail - Nathan Road - Show's
- Fate - Repulse
Bay - Sha Tin Station - Chance
- Shek O - <> and Victoria
Peak. All sides of the soft little box
are reinforced at the inside by s trip of paper fixed by staples, a not so
effective solution.
The 15 pink Chance cards are situated
next to the Car Park corner, while the 15 yellow
Fate cards are next the the "From this way" corner. Their sizes
are 54x83 mm.
The instructions on some of these cards read:
 | A fine for Black Marketing (or buy a "Chance"
for $ 1,000) |
 | Your Birthday Collect $ 100 from each player |
 | Security Deposit for to USA $ 2,400 |
 | Down an Enemy Plane - $ 3,000 |
The property deeds are thin white paper sheets of
70x97 mm, the rents side printed in blue,
the mortgage side in red. The banknotes
are printed in color on white paper. The 7 denominations are resp.:
10 - 50
- 100 - 200
- 500 - 1000
and 5000.
The 4 tokens are colored, plastic pawns.
There is but 1 small, white die with black pips, except for the red
4 and big red dot for 1.
The price of this set amounted to SIN$ 2.50 (€ 1.40) in
Singapore July 2003.
Edition:
Millionaire/Jutaria - Around the
world/Mengelilingi dunia
Publisher: Unknown manufacturer - ±2002
Dimensions of the box: 18.2 x 15.2 x 3.8 cm
of the unfolded "board": 38.0 x 38.3 cm
The game:
Although the design and presentation of this edition has great resemblance with
those of the other editions described there is no reason to believe this set to
be made by one of their manufacturers. The "Great Rich Man" in this
edition looks like an Austrian Tiroler man without beard, but with a handful of
American dollars.
This edition is trilingual: Malayan - Chinese and English, but the Rules
are only in Malayan and Chinese.
Both sides of this little box show a collage of pictures of the landmarks
mentioned on the game board.
The properties are 28 countries each represented by a picture of a
landmark. It is funny to see that the designer apparently don't know the country
France, only it's capital Paris. Another "new" country seems to be
Afrika. The game starts with Malaysia, followed by its neighbour city Singapore.
The spaces on the paper game board are from Mula/"Start from
here" onwards:
Malaysia
(Petronas Twin Tower)(1) - Fate - Singapore
(Merlion Statue)(2) - Income Tax paid - Australia
(Harbor Bridge & Opera House)(3) - New
Zealand (Pohutu Geyser)(4) - Chance - Chile
(Moai Statue)(5) - Brazil

(Tai Mahal)(23) - China
(Great Wall)(24) - Fate - Japan
(Mount Fuji)(25) - Hong Kong
(Chinese Junk Harbor)(26) - Chance - Myanmar (Shwedagon
Pagoda)(27) - Asset and Thailand (Wat Phra Kaeo)(28).
Mark further that:
 | The dice near "Great Rich Man" show 5 and 4. |
 | There are no train stations in the middle of each side. |
 | The scoundrel behind the only 2 bars of the jail is shown by a picture
of a man with a tag with number 2002 (which can also be a hidden way
to mention the year of issue). |
 | The Free Car Park corner is illustrated by a picture of a red
racing car. |
 | The Go to Jail corner is illustrated by a drawn policeman with
pointing finger. |
 | The space for the Fate cards is next
to Mula, while the Chance stack is near
the Free Car Park. |
The property deeds are all on one white paper sheet, both sides
printed in red, the mortgage side clearly
showing the space numbers and countries.
Each set of 15 Fate
and Chance cards is printed in dark
blue on a sheet of colored paper.
The money consist of banknotes all printed in color on 2 sheets of white
paper in 7 denominations 10 - 50 - 100 - 200 - 500 - 1000 and 5000 RM (Ringgit
Malayan).
The set has 4 hollow plastic pawns for tokens.
There are but 30 hollow plastic, dark
green houses and 10 red
hotels, all with lines over the roof and excentric situated chimney. They
are not fixed together.
The set comes with only 1 grey
plastic die, the pips of which are not colored.
This set was bought in Singapore February 2004 at the price of SIN$
2.90 (€ 1.60).
Edition:
Millionaire - red
box
"Specially designed for ages 5 to 8"
Publisher: unknown - ±2002
Dimensions of the box: 25.8 x 18.0 x 3.5 cm
of the unfolded paper board: 26.2 x 26.2 cm
The game:
The game is bilingual, both English and Chinese, but the evident Rules
pamflet shows only 13 lines in Chinese.
The lid of this edition suggests it to be a kind of "junior game" but
the paper game board looks very similar to a Parker design of an adult edition with 22 streets, the
common 4 corners a.s.o. The names of the (numbered) properties on the board are
in Chinese as well in English and the whole space has one basic color. The
colors are randomly applied and do not form groups.
From "From this way " all properties appear to be from Hong Kong,
viz.:
Tai Po Road - Lai
Chi Kok Road - Shim Sa Tsui Station - Silver
Mind Bay - Chance - Castle
Peak Road - Village Club -
AIL (should be JAIL) - Kai
Tak Amusement Park - Electric Company - Lai
Yuen Amusement Park - Boundary
Street - Sha Tin Station - Edinburgh
Statue Square - Fate - Waterloo Road
- Prince Edward
Road - Car Park - Li
Yue Mui - Chance - King's
Road - Des Voeux Road - Tai Po
Station - Garden
Park - Victoria Park -
Water Authority - Queen's Road - Go to Jail
- Nathan Road - Show's
- Fate - Bay - Law
Woo Station - Chance - Shek
and Victoria Peak.
The centre space of the game "board" is blue
and it shows the word Millionaire in Chinese and English as well as the Chance
field (next to the Car Park corner) and the Fate field (next to the start
corner).
The white Fate and Chance cards are bundled together with the pink
property deeds to a little "booklet" (60x93 mm), glued at one
small end. Except for the number and name of the street in English, all the rest
on the property deeds is in Chinese only.
There are 8 banknotes (50x97 mm) with a real Monopoly look, i.e.an oval
in the middle, showing running Mr. Monopoly, and 4 squares, two of them with a
house and the other two with the value of the note. They are printed in black
on colored paper. The denominations are: 10 - 50
-100 -
200 - 500
- 1000 - 2000 and 5000.
There are only 18 tiled houses but no
hotels.
The 6 tokens are colored plastic pawns with a large base.
The one die is a chinese one with a big red
dot for 1, the 4 in red pips and the other
figures in blue dots.
This game was "Made in China". It
was bought in Singapore February 2004 at the price of SIN$
4.00 (€ 2.20).
Edition:
Millionaire
"travel" - Great Rich Man - yellow
box
"You can take it with you!"
Publisher: unknown - ±2002
Dimensions of the box: 31.7 x 16.7 x 5.5 cm
of the unfolded paper board: 37.3 x 52.8 cm
The game:
Chinese characters to be seen on the lid of the box:
 | the 2 characters in the red spot stand
for bai wan = million. |
 | the 3 blue characters next to that
mean Da Fu Ong = Great Rich man. |
 | the 5 big characters on top the dollar sign stand for Fu Da Shu De
Quian = Rich uncle's money. |
This is clearly a Monopoly-like game for children. The design of the
lid, showing all kinds of fair attractions, is copied on the middle of the paper
game board with 24 property and chance spaces. These spaces have different sizes
and their names are in Chinese only, except for the Go!
and Happy Hour
corners. Mr. Monopoly, very frequently present on this board, is very much like
the Parker one but wearing spectacles.
There are no Chance cards but 3 small spinners, with a question mark
shaped dial, instead: 1 (blue) for movement,
although there is a die as well, 1 green and
1 pink for some kind of Chance
outcome.
Although made of strong white glossy paper the design of the 5 color
printed banknotes look very similar to that of the notes described in the
preceeding edition, reason why I would not be surprised if both editions were
made by the same Chinese manufacturer. The notes are in values of 1 to 5 as
usual in Junior editions.
The tokens are 6 sturdy colored hollow plastic chess pawns, meaning the
game can be played by 6 children, which is rather much for a junior game.
The Rules are in Chinese only on one single sheet .
This game was "Made in China".
It was bought in Singapore February 2004 at the price of SIN$
6.00 (€ 3.30).
Edition: Great Rich Man - Current Genersation
Publisher: Unknown Chinese manufacturer - ±2002
Dimensions of the box: 18.0 x 24.0 cm
of the paper game board: 25.8 x 53.3 cm
The game:
A short moment I'd got the impression this edition was made by the same
manufacturer as of the "Millionaire Around the World" (see higher up)
because of the "Austrian Tiroler man", but on
second thought there is no reason at all to make any comparison. Except perhaps
for the comic moustached "rich man" with red
hat, hanged with a camera and draging 2 suitcases, shown on the lid as well as
on the board's midfield.
This edition was made in China, what is "confirmed" by the fact the
design of the very tiny (27x61 mm) banknotes to be a copy of those slightly
larger notes of various Chinese editions with the remarkable mistake in writing oneolardn
for "one dollar".
The oblong board has 13 spaces on the long sides and only 5 on the short sides. The
properties are countries from all over the world and illustrated by the nation's
flag. They are grouped together in 8 groups of 3 color spaces. When we
compare this countries edition with that one with Item Nr. 3004 (see below) it is
notable that the countries, although less in number, are situated in the same
order. The only English words in this edition are Start, Destiny and Chance.
From Start onwards all 36 spaces are:
China
- Japan - Korea
- ? Destiny - Philippines -
Somalia
- Thailand
- Stop - India - Turkey
- Israel
- ! Chance - corner - Austria
- Switzerland - France
- ? Destiny - corner - Belgium - Netherlands
- United Kingdom - ? Destiny- Denmark
- Finland
- Greece - ?? - Italy
- Canada - USA
- ! Chance - corner - Mexico -
Brazil - Australia
and Chance.
All property-, Chance- and Destiny
cards (31x42 mm) are printed on a sheet of cardboard from which they must be
torn loose. There is an additional strip of 3 cards, showing the cartoon
characters Garfield, Dragon Ball GT (= Japanese cartoon)
and Sonic the purpose of which is not clear to me.
The 5 banknotes are printed in color on white paper in denominations of: 100
- 500 - 1000 - 2000
and 5000.
There are but 4 little hollow pawns as tokens.
The only one die is of red plastic
and is only 7x7x7 mm in size.
The Chinese Rules are printed in but 16 lines inside the lid of the game.
Edition: Great Rich Man - Tour through China - Mini box,
Item Nr.2005
Publisher: Yawan Stationery Co. Ltd. - Fuzhou -
China - ±2003
Dimensions of the box: 17.2 x 11.5 x 2.5 cm
of the paper board: 28.3 x 41.2 cm
The game:
Only because the item nr. of this edition, made by the same company as of the
set with item nr. 3004, is lower I guess it to be published earlier.
This manufacturer makes some dozens of different Monopoly-like games, always
under the "Uncle Wang Game" logo and showing those funny kids.
That is why they often give the impression to be junior games while they mostly
aren't!
The board of this edition has 9 spaces on the long sides and only 6 on the short
sides. The picture in the centre of the board is the same as on the lid. Next to
this picture are the Opportunity and Fate spaces. The properties are cities
and provinces of China. They are grouped per 2 and 3 spaces.
From Go
onwards the 14 properties, utilities and stations are:
Sichuan - Fate
- Hubei - Property Tax - Beijing
- Fuzhou train station - Opportunity
- Zhejiang - Jail - Shan
Xi - Shanghai - Fate
- ?? - Water Works - Free Parking - ??
- Hainan - Opportunity
- ? Tax - Hong
Kong - ? train station - Guangdong
- Fate
- Go to Jail - ?? - Opportunity
- ?? - Electric Company and Hebei. It
is striking there are only 2 stations while both "Parker utilities",
Water Works and Electric Company, are applied.
The
little box has a 3 holes plastic tray inside. One of the holes is for a little
box (70x 48x20 mm) containing all property cards as well as the 12 Fate and 12
Opportunity cards.
Another hole is for the small banknotes (70x40 mm). They are one-sided
printed in color on white paper, in 6 denominations: 100
- 500 -1000
- 2000 -5000
and 10000.
There are 24 hollow, plastic houses with
tiles and central chimney and only 6 hotels
of the same sizes as the houses.
The tokens consist of 4 funny cardboard kids to be pressed out the
sheet on top the houses and hotels (see the picture), folded and placed in a
plastic base of the same color.
There is but 1 Chinese die, so with the red
dot and 4.
The Rules are in Chinese only.
Edition:
The Settler's Menue
Publisher: Settlers Cafe - Singapore
- 2003
The story:
I was indicated on this very special menu by Kyra van Wingerden -
Den Haag- NL.
Being on holidays in Singapore she ended up in this Café, where she
got this Monopoly-like menu served up. (Not to take along, but for sale anyhow.)
Being owner of a "Games and Puzzles" shop she immediately recognized
the Monopoly game board in this large menu.
It
turned out there are two of these Café's in Singapore, where one can not only
eat and drink, but moreover can play all kinds of game (choice from more then
600).
On the game board the streets have been replaced
by dishes like: Black Pepper Lamb Chop, Cheesy Melts and Triple Deckers, just to
call a couple.
The prices mentioned on the spaces do of course concern the dices.
It is striking that one of the corner spaces shows Parker's Wines,
but it is doubful if they will be supplied by Parker Brothers!
Both café's are in the student districts.
Edition: Great Rich Man -
Tour through the World, Item Nr. 3004
"A Banking Board Game"
Publisher: Yawan Stationery Co., Ltd. - Fuzhou - China -
2004
Dimensions of the box: 32.0 x 23.5 x 4.3 cm
of the paper board: 48.0 x 48.3 cm
The game:
The name of the game is saying that the properties on the game board will be countries
from all over the world, represented by their flags
on the concerning spaces. From the pictures on the background of the centrefield
I recognize the Eiffeltower, Sydney's Theatre and Pisa's
Leaning Tower. Although the country names are given in readable text all the
rest, like the Rules, the ? (Chance)
and ! (Fate) cards and
property deeds (sizes of all these cards are the same: 52x 83 mm) is in
Chinese only. The paper used is of a fine glossy quality.
The nice looking banknotes (48x91 mm) are printed in color on one side of
white glossy paper in 7 denominations:10 - 50
- 100 - 500
- 1000 -
2000 and 5000. Since these
banknotes show the years 1962 (the establishment of the company)
and 2004, this year must be the year of issue of
this edition!
The innerbox contains a transparant insert with 5 holes for the
attributes. Of these the most striking is the little roulette replacing
the dice.
Another funny thing is the only 4 tokens being colored plastic cars
having their own transparent plastic little box.
The presence in the game of 50 hollow, plastic houses
with tiles and an excentric chimney and 16 hotels
of the same sizes will be necessary because of the the fact there are 51
properties. They are divided in groups from 2 to 6 spaces.
The 51 properties are from the start onwards:
China
- Japan - Korea
- Philippines - Malaysia
- Somalia - Vhailand
(misprint?) - India - Sri
Lanka - Lran (another
misprint?) - Iraq - Saudi
Arabia - Syria - corner - Turkey
- Lebanon - Israel
- Russia - Poland
- Germany - Austria
- Switzerland - France
- Belgium - Netherlands
- United Kingdom - corner - Finland
- Sweden - Denmark
- Greece - Italy
- Spain - Portugal
- Egypt - Morocco
- Zambia - South

- corner - Mexico - Honduras
- Nicaragua - Costa

The game:
Again another Millionaire version imported from Malaysia. This game is trilingual,
in that sense that:
 | the Rules are only in Chinese and Malayan. |
 | the property deeds as well as the Chance
and Fate
cards are in all 3 languages. |
 | some of the property names on the board are in Malayan/Chinese, others are
in English/Chinese. |
The paper game board's midfield is a blue

and "Jail" corner with the 3 names of this edition between them.

the denominations: 10 - 50

There are 32 hollow plastic houses and

all having lines on the roof and a very excentric placed chimney.

gives following comment on this issue:
"Uniquely Singapore" is the slogan recently adopted
by our Singapore Tourism Board to promote tourism to our country.
In the internet encyclopedia Wikipedia I found the following story on the Merlion:
"The Merlion was first
designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 1964 - the lion head with a fish body resting on a crest of waves quickly
became Singapore’s icon to the rest of the world.
Originally located at the Merlion Park by the Esplanade Bridge, the
Merlion and the Cub became a popular tourist attraction for visitors.
The installation ceremony took place on 15 September 1972, officiated by
the then Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Today, the Merlion has found a new home just 120
metres away from its original location, adjacent to one Fullerton.
Measuring 8.6 metres high and weighing 70 tonnes, the
Merlion statue was built from cement fondue by the late Singapore
craftsman, Mr. Lim Nang Seng. A second and smaller Merlion statue (the
Cub),
measuring two metres high and weighing three tones, was also built by Mr.
Lim. The body was made of cement fondue, the skin from porcelain plates
and eyes from small red teacups.
Designed by Mr Fraser
Brunner, a curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium, the lion head represents
the lion spotted by Prince Sang Nila Utama when he re-discovered
Singapura in 11 AD, as recorded in the "Malay Annals". The
fish tail of the Merlion symbolises the ancient city of Temasek (meaning
“sea” in Javanese) by which Singapore was known before the Prince
named it “Singapura” (meaning “lion” (singa) “city” (pura)
in Sanskrit), and represents Singapore’s humble beginnings as a
fishing village."
The game board's play side is bright and shows all
kinds of Singapore landmarks. Its back is blue.
